After he escapes his home, he starts to feel more self-assured and strong-minded. Shortly after, on the third encounter with the Japanese, Nicholas shows more confidence and inform in their presence. He is composed, and even shows some good humor while observing some Japanese soldiers. The scene was, Nicholas thought, like a little tableau being put on for his entertainment. Page 65 Here, Nicholas no longer reacts to the sight of the soldiers with anxiety. Instead he is calm and shows he has strength and control over his emotions. He changes from being a helpless and panicked little boy into a fearless adolescent. Throughout the course of the novel, Nicholas becomes more confident in carrying out dangerous and fearful missions hat many others would never imagine doing. He consults his servants, Tang and Ah MME, and even a photograph of his family. He looks at the photograph of his parents: This saddened but did not upset him. He had come to the terms with their absence and did not miss them. Not exactly. Not any longer. Page 84 As time passes, Nicholas becomes more independent and brave about facing the Japanese. For instance, when he is hiding in the bushes peering at the Japanese, Nicholas cant comprehend what is happening and he is scared. After escaping his home out of fear of the Japanese, he begins to morally understand his reality, the difference between good and evil. Tang tells a story of a man he met on the road in SAA Gung. The story shows Nicholas what the true meaning of this war is, and what the Hong Kong people have to do in order to survive. Tang recites from the Tory: If I give him fish to eat, he give me his wife He life so bad, he give me away his wife to be a servant for me so he can eat. Page 101 The man in the story is so poor that he had to sell his wife in order to survive. Learning about this helps Nicholas understand what the people of Hong Kong are enduring. He seriously contemplates the suffering of the man, and the sacrifices made by the locals. The fact that Nicholas is concerned about the people shows that he is mature. An additional example of his moral understanding follows this. Major Fox, an officer, gives a session to Nicholas to deliver the Music on the Bamboo Radio. He tells Nicholas not to be concerned if he is unable to do the task. However, Nicholas realizes how important the task is and how many people depend on it. He doesnt want it to be a failure. He changes from being naive to understanding the nightmares of war. In conclusion, Nicholas escapes his home, and in doing so, learns of the truths of the outside world, and becomes more aware of good and evil. Instead of being afraid, he shows fearlessness towards the Japanese. Nicholas grows into a hero. He is hero to the prisoners of war.

Hamletcharacter Analysis Essay Example For Students
Hamlet:character Analysis Essay Over the centuries many people have complained that William Shakespeare did an inadequate job of steering the readers of Hamlet to a specific interpretation of each character. Each reader is left to decide the true extent of Hamlets evil and insane ways or to realize that he clearly is a victim of circumstances beyond his control, therefore declaring him innocent. Because of William Shakespeares writing style, the reader receives little help in discovering who is truly innocent and who is as guilty as Claudius. Many scholars agree that Hamlet may be the most complex character presented by any playwrite. Over the centuries critics have offered many theories and explanations for Hamlets actions, but none have sufficiently explained him. Many people view Hamlet as a deeply troubled youth who caused many unnecessary deaths, such as those of Polonius and Laertes. Critics who support this theory point out the cruel actions carried out by Hamlet, one example being the indifferent and boastf ul way Hamlet describes the ingenious way he had his two good friend, Rosencrantz and Guildentsern killed. But wilt thou hear now how I did proceed?I sat down, devised a new commission, wrote it fair. I once did hold it, as our satists do, a baseness to write fair, labored much how to forget that learning, but, sir, now it did me a yeomans service. Wilt thou know th effect of what I wrote? An earnest conjuration from the King, as England was his faithful tributarythat on the view and knowing of the contents, without debatement further more or less, he should those bearers put to sudden death. (Shakespeare 5:228-45)The way Hamlet treats Ophelia, the woman he supposedly loved, also supports the portrayal of him being a barbarian. If thou dost marry ,Ill give thee this plague for thy dowry: be thou as chaste as ice, as pure as snow, thou shalt not escape calumny. Get thee to a nunneryreferring to a brothel, go and quickly, too.(Shakespeare 3:1 136-141)Another offered interpretation suggests that using the information given by the ghost of King Hamlet, Hamlet seized the opportunity to regain w hat was rightfully his-the throne of Denmark. One less popular belief that has been expressed states that Hamlet was actually a girl, raised as a man, so there would be an heir to the throne. Critics who support this view say that this theory explains Hamlets reluctance and hesitation to commit murder(which is most often viewed as a masculine act). This is highly unlikely because there is, in fact, no evidence in the play that supports this explanation. All critics do agree that Hamlet is exceptionally intelligent and a sensitive young man, however his actions are left to personal interpretations. Queen Gertrude, Hamlets mother, is perceived by most as a loving yet mysterious figure throughout the play. Her innocence is not only questioned by Hamlet in Act 3 scene 4 (A bloody deed-almost as bad Mother, as to kill a king and marry his brother)but by the readers as well. Many readers believe the final scene, in which Gertrude drinks the poisoned cup, is the clue to determining her guilt or innocence. Perhaps Gertrude drank the poison out of guilt from her role in her first husbands death. Its possible that she drank the wine without knowing that is would be fatal. It all depends on how the reader interprets one of the last things Gertrude says in the play, I will my Lord, I pray you pardon me. Cladius is often thought of as the villain of the play. Shakespeare portrayed Cladius as a true politician-tactful, manipulative and deceitfully clever. His power over people is demonstrated by his control over Rosencrantz and Guildenstern, whom he sent as spies . .u36cae80ed3e16f590f112e96ac82c9ad , .u36cae80ed3e16f590f112e96ac82c9ad .postImageUrl , .u36cae80ed3e16f590f112e96ac82c9ad .centered-text-area { min-height: 80px; position: relative; } .u36cae80ed3e16f590f112e96ac82c9ad , .u36cae80ed3e16f590f112e96ac82c9ad:hover , .u36cae80ed3e16f590f112e96ac82c9ad:visited , .u36cae80ed3e16f590f112e96ac82c9ad:active { border:0!important; } .u36cae80ed3e16f590f112e96ac82c9ad .clearfix:after { content: ""; display: table; clear: both; } .u36cae80ed3e16f590f112e96ac82c9ad { display: block; transition: background-color 250ms; webkit-transition: background-color 250ms; width: 100%; opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #95A5A6; } .u36cae80ed3e16f590f112e96ac82c9ad:active , .u36cae80ed3e16f590f112e96ac82c9ad:hover { opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #2C3E50; } .u36cae80ed3e16f590f112e96ac82c9ad .centered-text-area { width: 100%; position: relative ; } .u36cae80ed3e16f590f112e96ac82c9ad .ctaText { border-bottom: 0 solid #fff; color: #2980B9; font-size: 16px; font-weight: bold; margin: 0; padding: 0; text-decoration: underline; } .u36cae80ed3e16f590f112e96ac82c9ad .postTitle { color: #FFFFFF; font-size: 16px; font-weight: 600; margin: 0; padding: 0; width: 100%; } .u36cae80ed3e16f590f112e96ac82c9ad .ctaButton { background-color: #7F8C8D!important; color: #2980B9; border: none; border-radius: 3px; box-shadow: none; font-size: 14px; font-weight: bold; line-height: 26px; moz-border-radius: 3px; text-align: center; text-decoration: none; text-shadow: none; width: 80px; min-height: 80px; background: url(https://artscolumbia.org/wp-content/plugins/intelly-related-posts/assets/images/simple-arrow.png)no-repeat; position: absolute; right: 0; top: 0; } .u36cae80ed3e16f590f112e96ac82c9ad:hover .ctaButton { background-color: #34495E!important; } .u36cae80ed3e16f590f112e96ac82c9ad .centered-text { display: table; height: 80px; padding-left : 18px; top: 0; } .u36cae80ed3e16f590f112e96ac82c9ad .u36cae80ed3e16f590f112e96ac82c9ad-content { display: table-cell; margin: 0; padding: 0; padding-right: 108px; position: relative; vertical-align: middle; width: 100%; } .u36cae80ed3e16f590f112e96ac82c9ad:after { content: ""; display: block; clear: both; } READ: Computer Monitoring EssayAnd can you by no drift of conference get from him why he puts on this confusion, grating so harshly all his days of quiet with turbulent and dangerous lunacy?Good gentlemen, give him a further edge and drive his purpose into these delights.reply from Rosencrantz: We shall, my lord. (Shakespeare 3:1 1-28)Some scholars suggest that we are supposed to view Caldius as being better suited to be king than Hamlet, that is why Cladius does the things he does. Polonius is viewed as a mixture of good and evil. He is clearly an intelligent man who was influential and well liked in the Danish court. Most critics speculate the Polonius intentions were usually good but he had a sinister side as well. His sinister side was demonstrated by his eagerness to obtain a higher political position by any means possible, such as trickery, spying and marrying his only daughter into the Royal family. Ophelia, walk you here-gracious, so please you, we will bestow ourselves. Read on this book, that show of such an exercise may color your loneliness. Tell him his pranks have been to broad to bear with, and that Your Grace hath screened and stood between much heat and him. Ill shroud me even here. Pray you, be round with him. (Shakespeare 3:4 1-5)Every character in Shakespeares Hamlet, from Hamlet himself to the priest, can be interpreted a number of different ways. There is no right or wrong character analysis. Even the reasons for a characters actions can be interpreted different ways and tied to a number of the plays hidden themes.

The advantages and disadvantages of Enterprise Resource Planning
Introduction Most companies have found it difficult to cope with factors such as mergers and competitiveness among others, using the old system of MRP (Manufacturing resource planning). Moreover, they have found it hard to improve in profitability with the same system.Advertising We will write a custom report sample on The advantages and disadvantages of Enterprise Resource Planning specifically for you for only $16.05 $11/page Learn More This has prompted a shift to Enterprise Resource Planning, which has proved to be efficient in all areas of production. Companies that do not use ERP usually find themselves using incompatible software packages that carry with them numerous errors and problems, thus undermining their objectives. This is mainly because several processes are involved in implementing ERP, all the way from designing of the product to marketing. ERP is therefore very instrumental in enhancing management and efficiency; this would help in ach ieving most, if not all of the companyââ¬â¢s objectives. The paper will use two articles to analyze advantages and disadvantages of ERP in organizations (Exforsys, Inc., 2009, p. 1). ERP Enterprise resource planning is a platform that integrates all elements of production in an organization to manage and automate the activities, thereby improving their efficiency, logistics and work flow, among others. Its integration combines all the external and internal factors of production in an organization . It begins right from product design and facilitates flow of work throughout the system. ERP does not rely on periodic updates and therefore ensures real time application throughout its integrated system software. Its ability to run in virtually every network as well as hardware makes it not only viable but reliable too. ERP has a common database that work with all applications. Its reliability is unrivaled as it utilizes database as storage for information. Its main objective is to try and consolidate all the departments in a company. Communication is fastened through this method and product design is boosted as well. ERP strives to incorporate finance, manufacturing, customer service, chain supply, data services and human resource departments, among others. ERP has been touted as one of the best management systems in the world. It has succeeded in replacing MRP as the solution based software that integrates all departments. According to Barker and Frolick, successful implementation of ERP is vital to success of a company.Advertising Looking for report on business economics? Let's see if we can help you! Several articles have tried to suggest ways of implementing ERP successfully in organizations, focusing more on its advantages than the disadvan tages. Furthermore a number of companies have also failed in successful implementation of ERP, instead trying to cover for it with other software packages. However it is quite imperative to note that as much as it is very efficient and useful in its application, ERP requires proper implementation, following of all the guidelines that relates to its implementation along with the inclusion of all departments to achieve its purpose (Baltzan, Phillips, Lynch Blakey, 2010, p. 23). Discussion Numerous articles have underlined the main advantages of ERP as well as its disadvantages. A number of agreements are evident in advantages with a few disparities. However most of the authors do not quite concur on major disadvantages. The following are a few analyses on two articles that share and differ on various aspects of ERP implementation (Bidgoli, 2004, p. 707). ERP Implementation failure: A case Study, by Barker and Frolick Barker and Frolick concur that implementing ERP is a difficult task and requires more than installation of the software. They feel that most companies have failed in their quest to implement ERP because of its management. They also argue that after installation, the management must act to involve every personnel so as to bring success. Team attitude is emphasized in this article with an assurance that sustainable success will follow those companies that completes the required implementation. Barker and Frolick stress the fact that ERP is very important in facilitating mergers, competitiveness and acquisitions that have caused uncountable problems to companies. In their success stories with ERP they give Fujitsu as one such company that has excelled due to ERP. According to them, ERP has the following advantages. ERP is essential in improving employee satisfaction, by dipping work redundancy that is likely to cause fatigue. They also credit it with time conservation, which allows for value added tasks, employee satisfaction is also credited with tra nsforming them into company assets as they gain more experience and stay with the organization. This is important in lowering employee turnover as well as training costs and helps in widening competitive advantage (Sheilds, 2001, p. 9-10).Advertising We will write a custom report sample on The advantages and disadvantages of Enterprise Resource Planning specifically for you for only $16.05 $11/page Learn More The article goes on to state that ERPââ¬â¢s main targets are those departments that are incompatible and incorporates them in the system to help draw them closer. This helps in improving decision making for the organization as it speeds up information processing. Better decision making in companies help them instill corporate environment. The authors attest to the fact that ERP helps break barriers that usually exist between departments, thus helping in workflow. These benefits are usually enticing to companies, causing them to rush into impleme ntation of ERP. The article also majors on disadvantages of ERP, stating that it is prone to failure without proper implementation as well as management. They also concede that ERP is difficult to implement. Other disadvantages include its inability to be modified into the companyââ¬â¢s structure and high risks of failure (Barker, Frolick, 2003, p. 43-49). Academic Tutorials Academic tutorials provides several advantages of ERP namely its ability to interface engineering design, tracking of orders, revenue cycle, control and security of information against any sabotage, among others. The article also dwells on disadvantages, in which it concurs with Barker and Frolick that implementation of ERP is very tasking, it has a high risk of failure as companies try to transform into ERP model, difficult in usage and too rigid. Other disadvantages listed by academic tutorials include high switching cost after its implementation, technical support, which may at times cause computer insecu rity. Still others are charges by ERP vendors that is not reflective of the size, and profitability of the organization, risk of over engineering the system that makes it more complex, problems of accountability due to broken barriers as well as its ability to be affected by other department, among others. The article gives more disadvantages than advantages.Advertising Looking for report on business economics? Let's see if we can help you! Get your first paper with 15% OFF Learn More Summary The articles have given substantial facts on advantages and disadvantages of ERP implementation. The first article by Backer and Frolick emphasizes on importance of using ERP in management systems although it warns organizations of what to expect if they do not comply with its implementation guidelines. Throughout the article they attribute failure to mistakes by organization; on the other hand Academic tutorials provide several disadvantages of ERP. Nonetheless they both concur that ERP is difficult to implement. Among the advantages provided by the article include reduced costs on inventory, chain supply, material time flow as well as in logistics. It is also credited with standardization of the organization practice, improvement of work flow, error reduction, customer satisfaction, and achievement of company goals. Other advantages include breaking of departmental barriers, faster decision making, improvement on communication and relationships between departments, as well as employee satisfaction, among others (Barker, Frolick, 2003, p. 43-49). Both articles also concur that ERP has disadvantages, although academic tutorials discusses more of it. Among the disadvantages listed include its high rate of failure, high costs of implementation and training of staff as well as the high cost of switching from ERP. Other disadvantages named include its complexity, misfits that may lead to bankruptcy (as in FoxMeyerââ¬â¢s case), high risk of failure, for instance about 20% of companies that attempted implementation of ERP have failed; another example is Dell, which never implemented ERP due to its rigidity to expansion. It may take too long (three or more years) to start reaping benefits, by this time most companies may have succumb to failure. ERP also exposes the company to internet insecurity and this becomes very expensive as they have to continually adapt to contemporary data protection techniques that are costly. Implementation of ERP is therefore very challenging to companies much as it is the best (Vyom Technosoft Ltd., 2011, p. 1). Conclusion ERP is very essential for companies as it helps improve their competitiveness, profitability and product design processes. However, it has several guidelines that make it rigid and therefore very complex. This makes it very expensive to implement and poses a high risk of failure if not successfully implemented. What is competition like in the luxury goods industry? What competitory forces seem to hold the greatest consequence on industry attraction? The Luxury branding determination will act upon an organizationââ¬â¢s pricing determinations because its place is related to the productââ¬â¢s monetary value. Take Coca Cola. for illustration. It is the most valuable trade name in the universe. The trade name shapers intend to oblige everyone to imbibe Coca and supply a feeling of felicity. Therefore. the monetary value of the merchandise will be cheap. since the trade name is aimed at bring oning the publicââ¬â¢s joy. If the company sets the monetary values high. people may non be able to afford Coca Cola. Since the trade name targets consumers of all backgrounds and income degrees. it aims to market itself as a inexpensive drink that tastes singular. This is how the trade name is related to the pricing. Similarly. Coach. Inc. succeeds in keeping a balance between low-cost monetary value and epicurean design. Coach is a less expensive luxury trade name compared to its more expensive Italian and Gallic opposite numbers. The type of trade name will straight act upon an organizationââ¬â¢s distribution system. particularly if it is a luxury trade name. since the trade name may state people where the merchandise is distributed. Harmonizing to the web site ( americanessays. com ) ââ¬Å"Coca Cola has its ain distribution channel including direct and indirect merchandising. â⬠By utilizing this scheme. Coca Cola is able to supply Coke all over the universe. Coach. Inc. keyed into ââ¬Å"accessibleâ⬠luxury ladiesââ¬â¢ pocketbooks and leather accoutrements. The trade name will act upon a companyââ¬â¢s publicity determination because of its nature. For a trade name like Louis Vuitton. clients hardly receive any price reductions or happen any publicities since it is a really well-known trade name with Gallic elegance. The company may non execute any publicities since it may ache the trade name. In contrast. a trade name like Best Buy often holds publicities. normally every season or every month since this trade name is meant to be economic. Therefore. the company will put to death publicities rather frequently. Coach. Inc. created its concern theoretical account. which has different sorts of shops. including full-price shops. mill shops. sweeping section shops. and internet gross revenues shops. Full-price shops sell the newest interior decorator manus bags. leather accoutrements. aromas. and womenââ¬â¢s knitwear aggregations. Factory shops sell somewhat out-of-season merchandises. Coach. Inc. selects the highest quality stuffs to bring forth its merchandises in order to keep its repute of exceeding quality. Under the managerââ¬â¢s selling squad. Coach launches new aggregations every month to pull clients to return and shop its merchandise choice. On the other manus. clients can happen their favourite pocketbooks and accoutrements in mill shops at discounted monetary values. Coach has become the best-selling trade name of womenââ¬â¢s luxury pocketbooks and leather accoutrements in the United States. with a 25 % market portion. Furthermore. Coach is the 2nd best-selling trade name of those merchandises in Japan. with an 8 % market portion. With its successful planetary concern scheme. Coach. Inc. has quickly grown in the last six old ages after its initial IPO in 2000 ( Paul. 283 ) . It attracts largely middle-income consumers. who purchase its merchandises instead than those of other name trade names on the same monetary value degree. The turning desire for luxury goods in middleclass consumers is thought to be a consequence of a broad scope of factors. including effectual advertisement and Television scheduling that glorifies conspicuous ingestion. On the other manus. the demanding day-to-day asperity of two-income families is thought to be another suggested factor. Extra factor are the lifting gross revenues of luxury goods and the growing of large box discount houses. such as Wal-Mart and Target ( Gamble ) . Therefore. in the modern-day market environment. should the company want to construct its concern successfully. the cardinal points are great design. high quality. and luxury styling in an acceptable monetary value scope. If the company doesnââ¬â¢t adhere to those cardinal points. it will take itself to loss of its market portion or bankruptcy. 3 ) 3. How is the market for luxury pocketbooks and leather accoutrements altering? What are the underlying drivers of alteration and how might those impulsive forces change the industry? In the current luxury pocketbooks and leather accoutrements market. any viing company faces two sets of challenges in go oning the development of its concern and succeeding in turning its market portion. First. when Coach. Inc. was founded in 1941. it was a little family-owned pocketbook concern in New York City. After 44 old ages of household direction with a steadily set monetary value 50 % lower than more epicurean trade names. Coach was sold to Sara Lee. Coach continued to turn quickly until the mid-1990s. Then. in an disconnected alteration of events. consumers quit buying Coachââ¬â¢s pocketbook in order to concentrate on Gallic and Italian trade names. such as Gucci. Prada. and Louis Vuitton. The companyââ¬â¢s market portion fell from 40 % to a tragic 5 % . Reed Krakoff. the top Tommy Hilfiger interior decorator. was hired by Sara Lee to salvage the concern that had more than half a centuryââ¬â¢s worth of history. In the beginning. Reed did the extended consumer studies and held focal point groups to acquire the information of styling. comfort. and functionality penchants. After making consumer studies. Reed found that clients wanted pocketbooks with edgier styling. softer leather. and leather-trimmed cloth. After six months. Coach launched redesigned. bran-new pocketbook to the market. Furthermore. Reed improved the visual aspect from dark. wood-paneled insides design to a bring and air atmosphere design. Reed planned to establish new aggregations every month alternatively of twice a twelvemonth. Reed introduced the trial theoretical accounts and the discontinued theoretical accounts sold at discounted monetary value. After invention. Coach gross revenues continued to turn from $ 500 million in 1999 to more than $ 2. 1 billion in 2006 ( John E. Gamble ) . In add-on. luxury trade name name merchandises face imitative goods. which threatened their market gross revenues in current old ages. In 2006. more than $ 500 billion worth of imitative goods were sold all over the universe. As a consequence. it earnestly threatened the net income of name trade name companies. Battling imitative goods requires the authorities to take a measure to combat and convict rational belongings rights offenses. 4 ) 6. What are the resource strengths and failings of Coach Inc. ? What competences and capablenesss does it hold that its head challengers donââ¬â¢t hold? What new market chances does Coach hold? What threats do you see to the companyââ¬â¢s hereafter wellbeing? Coach. Inc. is the good known luxury trade name of pocketbooks and leather accoutrements which that originated in the United States. It should be more popular and widely-accepted by Americans since it is an American luxury trade name. Furthermore. Coach. Inc. continues to pull consumers by establishing new aggregations every month. taging up full-priced new merchandises and over-seasonal productsââ¬â¢ low monetary value degree. Those concern features barely occur in its head challengers. such as Hermes. Ralph Lauren. Prada. and Louis Vuitton. Therefore. it creates a long-run relationship with its clients. In recent old ages. Coach. Inc. has continued to spread out and develop its concern all over the universe. For illustration. it builds more flagship shops in different states. Furthermore. Coach. Inc. tries to diversity its concern. For illustration. Coach. Inc. now launches womenââ¬â¢s knitwear aggregations. and ladiesââ¬â¢ footwear. To the contrary. Coach. Inc. sets up excessively many shops in the nearby countries. which will ache the luxury trade name nameââ¬â¢s repute. If one can purchase Coachââ¬â¢s merchandises anyplace. will one still happen Coach to be epicurean? The economic system is now acquiring better and better. Companies will counterbalance their employees good. and allow them more buying powerful to buy Coachââ¬â¢s merchandises. However. the challenge of Coach. Inc. is to vie with other luxury Gallic and Italian trade name goods and to battle the menace of imitative goods ( John E. Gamble ) . 5 ) 7. What recommendations would you do to Lew Frankfort to better the companyââ¬â¢s competitory place in the industry and its fiscal and market public presentation? In decision. Coach. Inc. is one of the most successful luxury trade names of womenââ¬â¢s pocketbooks and leather accoutrements. Its merchandises match cardinal luxury challengers on quality and titling with pricing flat focal point on middle-income consumers ( John E. Gamble ) . In the companyââ¬â¢s hereafter development. I would urge that Lew Frankfort focal point on market state of affairss and customersââ¬â¢ perpetually-changing desires. It would be to his benefit to make market appraise prior to a new productââ¬â¢s creative activity. The company should put up shops merely in locations where enlargement is profitable. The company should follow current concern theoretical accounts. such as different monetary value degrees. launch new aggregations every month. go on with high quality production. and supply first-class client service. which can develop and make higher degree returns on shareholdersââ¬â¢ equities.
